Trip to Ohio-November 2008

As I said in a previous post, we went to Ohio for Thanksgiving this year to visit Jeff's family. The boys love being with their cousins (and of course Pop Pop, Uncle Joe, Aunt Joan and Uncle Tim).
Joe lives in the heart of Amish country and one of my favorite things to do while we are up there is to go down and drive around and stop in some of their stores. This year we drove through quite a bit of Holmes & Wayne county . It is absolutely beautiful there. We stopped at Ashery's Grocery which is a neat little grocery store that is operated by the Amish and Mennonite. They sell spices in bulk and you can get them very cheap! I stay well stocked in that area. We also went to Heni's Cheese House where they make all kinds of cheeses on site. They also sell lots of neat things. I didn't get many pictures this time of Amish country but here are a couple.
This is an Amish school. Every little bit we would see one, but I thought this one was really unique looking. See the big pile of wood they use to heat the school?
This particular school is very old. We saw several groups of children walking home from school, but I wasn't able to get any pictures. Jeff was too busy trying to keep from hitting them. They tend to walk in the road oblivious to traffic. You could tell it was an Amish farm by the way they stacked up their corn. It was a beautiful sight. It looks foggy, but that is actually snow. That day was "wash day" and even though it was a very cold and "snowy" day, they had their laundry hanging outside. I was curious as to how long it took to dry in those conditions. (I am rather partial to my electric washer and dryer)
We ate lunch at the Amish Door restaurant. The food is very good and I especially loved
going through their gift shop. It is a tourist stop but still very enjoyable.
This is Taylor and Jacob while we were waiting for our food. Joe and Jorden at the Amish Door.
Our boys look forward to the snow more than anything when we go up. Even in the summer they don't understand why it doesn't snow. After all, we are up north...
Obviously we don't get much snow in Alabama. So though there was hardly enough to play in that day, they had a blast. All the kids (except Chris) along with Jeff and Joe had a snowball fight one afternoon.
Jorden-loved playing in the snow
I know you aren't getting ready to throw that at me!

Somebody better look out!

Dad's backyard after it snowed all night.
The boys loved playing in the snow!
In my next post I will have pictures from Thanksgiving. I apologize for taking so long. Christmas will be here before I get caught up! LOL
Speaking of snow, it is in the 60's here today with possible severe weather tonight, then tomorrow, they are saying we could have 2 inches of snow!! How is that for bizarre? But when you live in Alabama you learn not to place too much hope on snow actually happening. However, rest assured there will be NO BREAD or MILK to be found in the store tomorrow morning!
We have a saying here "If you don't like the weather, stick around it is bound to change!"

Ha! We have that same saying in OKlahoma! I enjoyed looking at your pictures. How fun that it snowed while you were there, even if it was just a little. We were supposed to get an inch of snow yesterday and didn't and Logan was so disappointed.
