Mobile, AL-Spring Break-Day 2

Friday we drove up to Mobile which is about 1 hour from Orange Beach. They had predicted bad weather all day so we decided to spend the day inside. Mobile is a really beautiful old historic town which we enjoyed very much. The USS Alabama is there (we toured it last year) along with several other places we visited and some we hope to visit the next time we go down. We were able to walk around the town some in-between storms...here are the pictures from our day in Mobile.

Jeff took these pictures of the beautiful azaleas in Mobile. They bloom
earlier in south Alabama than they do at home. (about 1-2 weeks earlier)

Beautiful!

We visited a replica of Fort Conde in downtown Mobile. It is
a Revolutionary Era fort that you can tour and climb all over. :-)

Outside the fort...

Looking down into the courtyard, from the top of the fort.

Joe and Jacob in the stockade...Jacob has his lip pooched out! ha! This was inside the walls of the fort... (me and Jacob)

Inside the fort...
We spent most of the day at the Explorium Museum in Mobile. It is a "hands-on" science museum tha is fun for everyone. We also watched "The Grand Canyon Experience" at their IMax (it is not nearly is good as seeing the real thing by the way!)

Outside the Explorium Museum...

We are on a "rollercoaster ride" here. The boys could design their own rollercoaster, then we all got to "ride" it. It was pretty neat.

I am trying to raise my heart rate here. I am sooooo out of shape, it is pathetic!

Jeff is hard at work on an exercise bicycle. (This was in the "bodyworks exhibit)

Taylor and Jacob, flying an airplane

Jeff had a lot of fun also!

Where did my body go? Taylor the Talking Head...

What a cute little head...

This takes lots of strength

My how strong you are!

Again with the super human strength
One of the boy's favorite places to eat while we are down in Gulf Shores
is Lambert's Cafe in Foley, AL. This is the home of the "Throwed Rolls". Yes, you read that right! The waiters bring these hot, HUGE rolls into the eating area and start shouting "hot rolls" and when you hold your hand up they throw it at you across the restaurant! It is quite the active place to eat. They love to play jokes on you and you never know what will happen. For instance, one of the waiters came by our table and asked Jacob if he wanted a peppermint stick. When he said yes and went to open the box a "fake rat" jumped out at him. Jacob's eyes were huge! Too bad I didn't get a picture of that. They also "pretend" to spill coke on you, squirt you with ketchup (fake again) and other crazy things. Loud country music is playing over head and everyone is trying to talk over all the noise. It is a very ACTIVE place! Not really my idea of fun, but the kids love it, and the food is good.
