God Is Faithful

I labeled this post "God is Faithful" and I know all of you can attest to that in your own lives, but I want to tell you of His faithfulness in our family. Last Tuesday my father-in-law, Neal Messner was out riding his bike as he often does and enjoys very much. He was in the state park that is behind his property and somehow got one of his tires caught on a curb and he was flipped over the handle bars. As a result of his fall, he cracked several ribs. He was alone and had to walk his bike home (about 2 miles as I understand it). He then drove himself to the doctor's office where they confirmed he had broken some ribs. He was told to go home and go to the hospital the next day for a CAT scan. That test indicated that he had air in or on one of his lungs and it could cause serious complications. His doctor ordered him to ER thinking that he would have to have surgery to repair the "hole". Jeff and I found all of this out as dad was being taken back for more tests in ER. Needless to say we were very worried. There's a lot of miles between Alabama and Ohio which we feel on a regular basis, but when something like this happens, it feels like it is half-way around the world. We began praying of course for his protection and healing. In a few hours we found out that the doctors did not see a need for surgery. (Praise God!) He was kept in intensive care that night and moved to a room Thursday. The doctors were concerned about him developing pneumonia or an infection from the tear, but that never happened. He was released Saturday to go home! Again, we praise God. He is so faithful-this could have turned out so much worse...

Below are some more pictures from our trip out west with him. My father-in-law is such a special person. I am happy to be his daughter-in-law, even if he does tease me mercilessly. Yes dad, I know you do it because you love me! :-) I love you too!

Wow, that could have turned out pretty bad. I'm glad to hear Uncle Neal is ok.

We have been keeping tabs on him.... he definitely has the Messner "spunk" to be able to walk that far and then drive himself to the dr. It is good to know that he is doing better, but it is scary when there is that many miles between you and you feel like you need to do something, but can't.

I second that! I am glad Uncle Neal is okay, too. He is such a special person to so many people. I have so many good memories of staying overnight at their house. Aunt Eleanor was a very special person, too. I remember, before we went to bed, she would always make hot tea and put milk in it (this was a new concept to me) and then we would go sit out on her porch, and drink it. It was so tasty! Occasionally, I will put milk in my tea and my thoughts will drift to Aunt Eleanor.
