Wild West Adventure-Summer 2012 (Part 3)

The morning we were leaving the ranch, we passed Mrs. Hedstrom on the road out. She told us we should stop by the corral and watch them do some branding. This is a real, working ranch. They raise cows to sell for beef. The day before they had a “round up” and now they were going to brand the calves. This sounded like fun to us so we stopped…

Driving up to the corral…

IMG_4472IMG_4473

Beautiful horses!

IMG_4474

A few of the herd. Boy this was a noisy bunch!! I’ve never heard such mooing and bellowing in all my life!!

This young lady was very good at what she did!

IMG_4478

That smoke represented some pretty foul smells! ha!

Mr. Alvin Hedstrom is the one in the white shirt and white cowboy hat.

IMG_4480

Yeowch!!

IMG_4481

Momma cows were not happy to hear their baby’s crying!

So cute!

We had church in our hotel room via the internet-www.tarrantbiblemethodist.com. Afterwards we went to the Garden of the God’s State Park.

IMG_4490

This is a beautiful place!!

IMG_4491IMG_4492

Kissing Camels….(don’t you see it?)

IMG_4493IMG_4494

Wow! Made by the “Master Designer!”

IMG_4495IMG_4496

They have gorgeous birds out there!

IMG_4497

We had to get a picture of daddy’s get-up! He was prepared for anything!

IMG_4498

So was my mom!! Ha! Ha! (Actually she was having trouble with one of her eyes. The sun was really hurting it, so she had double sunglasses on and one of daddy’s hats.)

IMG_4499

Hmmm…..

IMG_4500

If you had a permit, they would let you climb the rocks. Otherwise you were in danger of a hefty fine!! No thanks!

IMG_4501

Me with my oldest…

IMG_4502

Love this young man so much!

IMG_4503

The love of my life!

IMG_4504

My dream come true….

IMG_4505

He made it to the top! (Wonder if he knew we were taking pictures of him)

Father’s Day 2012

IMG_4508IMG_4509

Happy Father’s Day to my Daddy!

IMG_4510

My father-in-law doesn’t meet a stranger. He was getting the “low down” on rock climbing….

IMG_4511

Kind of looks like a face to me…

IMG_4514

Prickly Pear. You do NOT want to step on one of these!

IMG_4517

Beautiful view of Pikes Peak from the Garden of the God’s

Pikes Peak

Getting ready for our ride on the Cog Railway up to Pike’s Peak

IMG_4523

Jorden was carrying our back pack of jackets/hoodies to wear when we got to the top. It was hard to imagine needing them at that point. It was quite warm!

IMG_4524IMG_4526

Beautiful waterfall we saw on the way up. The “guide” that was giving us interesting tidbits told us (before we saw this) that it was higher than Niagara Falls. We all laughed when we saw this, but she was right, our elevation was quite higher at this point than Niagara Falls.

IMG_4527IMG_4528

Sorry about the “knob” in the picture. We had the windows up at this point. It was getting COLD on the train.

IMG_4532IMG_4534

Takes my breath away!

IMG_4535

The window is part way down here. Notice the slope?

IMG_4536

Getting steeper…

IMG_4537

Still…

The boys looking out over the top of Pike’s Peak

IMG_4562

Notice the coats? It was pretty chilly up there when the wind blew!

IMG_4565

On the top of the world

IMG_4566

What a view!

IMG_4568

Taylor had a little trouble breathing at the top. His asthma was acting up and the high elevation did not help.

IMG_4569

This was a little too close to the edge for my comfort

IMG_4581IMG_4582IMG_4584IMG_4585

The train that passed us. It looked exactly like ours!

Focus on the Family

We visited the Visitor’s Center for Focus on the Family one day. The boys were so excited! They have grown up listening to “Adventures in Odyssey” and Jeff and I have enjoyed listening to the Focus on the Family Radio Broadcast and we own many books published by this wonderful Christian Ministry. They have a very nice visitor’s center.

IMG_4593

Our boys couldn’t wait to see what the Adventure’s in Odyssey part would be like. There was a huge, swirly, slide that took you down to it. Jeff, Jorden and Jacob decided to try it out. (the rest of us took the stairs). Jeff was not thrilled when he came out. He said it was a little “tight” for a man his size. (I am glad I didn’t go that way!)

IMG_4594

This took you into Odyssey…

IMG_4595

One of our favorite stories on Adventures in Odyssey!

Entering Narnia

IMG_4616

Narnia!

IMG_4617

The highlight of Jacob’s trip!

We were all so impressed by how well kept the grounds and buildings were, as well as the friendliness of the staff. Their book store was unbelievable! We could  have stayed there for hours! There was so much to see, but we got there sort of late. I hope to go back one day and see where they do the recording. May God continue to bless this outstanding ministry!
