Sunday we were finally back in the good ole USA! We had “church” in our room, then took a picnic to a local park. We also visited Sault Ste. Marie and got to see a large vessel change locks. It was a really cool experience!
View of Lake Huron, from our hotel patio
Such a beautiful place to stay!!
Large boat coming into the Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie, MI
Workers tying up the boat before it moved up in the lock
A really fun experience for all of us!! So glad we got to witness this! By the time it had finished, you could read the numbers on the side of the boat and not see any of this wall!
Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse
Beautiful lighthouse we got to go up in…
I’m not a big fan of bridges and this was not my favorite part of the trip, but I survived. One of the times we crossed, I talked on the phone to my parents the whole time we were on it and it made the time go really fast! Beautiful bridge though…(from a distance)
The original light they rescued from the Coast Guard.
View of the bridge from the top of the lighthouse.
Old Glory flying from the top of the lighthouse
Some of the fauna growing outside the lighthouse.
Beautiful!
The Messner family loves lighthouses!

Jorden Turns 15!
Once again, while we were on vacation, Jorden had his birthday. I think he’s getting tired of having to celebrate on vacation. Ha! Can’t believe he is 15 already! He is growing into such a wonderful young man. Jeff and I are so proud of him! He let me take these pictures of him while we were at the lighthouse park.
Happy Father’s Day
Father’s Day also fell while we were on vacation. So glad we got to spend it with Pop Pop!
The Love of my life! (yes, we were freezing!)
The beach of Lake Huron
Hunting for treasure
Mackinac Island
Monday we went to Mackinac Island. Wow! What a beautiful place! I’ve never seen anything like that. They don’t allow cars on the Island. Everyone either walks, rides bikes or rides in a horse drawn carriage. I would really love to go there again some day and stay in one of the hotels.
We had to take a boat over to the island. It was so cold!
A lighthouse on the Island
Some of the houses on the island
Great day for sailing!!
The bridge again! (view from the water)
This is the type of boat we road to and from the Island. They go over every 30 mins during the day. Takes about 15-20 mins to get over there. (the only other way to get there is by plane)
The Grand Hotel-scenes from the movie “Somewhere In Time” was filmed at this hotel.
Some of the houses on the Island
Another beautiful lighthouse close to the Island.
Beautiful church on the Island
An incredible place!!
Kite-flying is a favorite past time on the Island
Fort Mackinac is at the top of the hill on the Island
Bike rental is really BIG on the Island.
One of the streets on the Island
Lots of relaxing on the Island. It was such a perfect day weather-wise. Mid-70’s and not a cloud in the sky.
Lilac bushes are all over the Island. They are so beautiful!! And were in peak season when we were there.
View from the fort
Re-enactors inside the fort. (They were singing “Oh Susanna” to the only girl in the group.)
The fort surrounds the hill at the top of the Island. Beautiful view!
Wonder what he’s thinking??
Get ready to plug your ears!!
Jorden and Pop Pop listening to the guide tell about the fort.
Cool shot Jeff!!
This picture cracks me up!!
My little soldiers…
There was a really neat museum inside the fort for the kids. Lots of “hands on” stuff.
Fort Michilimackinac
Tuesday, before we started back towards Akron, OH, we visited Fort Michilimackinac. (very difficult word to say!)

Two of the “interpreters” that were very good at their jobs!
Listening to them tell about the fort.
You had to have at least four teeth to get into the army in those days.
So that you could rip off the paper to pour your powder into the gun barrel.
Hold your ears! (I made Jeff take this picture so I could hold mine!)
The younger guys gun mis-fired so he had to shoot again.
A much more “rugged” fort than Fort Mackinac!
The Catholic priest (interpreter) inside the mission in the fort
Our boys got picked to be part of a demonstration
Now that they’ve joined the army, they must put on their uniforms.
Standing at attention (chest out, shoulders back!)
The officer in charge giving them orders
About face!
They had so much fun doing this!
Getting their discharge orders
Another one of the interpreters inside one of the houses.
Jorden-trying on one of the uniforms.
Fascinating piece of America’s history
On the way home we stopped at several more lighthouses.
What a wonderful vacation it was. Thank you for your patience as I waded through all of our pictures.
What a beautiful country we live in!!
