My Most Embarrassing Moment-This Week

I guess it is time to post one my finer moments on my blog. If I don't, one of my friends probably will anyway so I might as well tell on myself. LOL

Our church has a wonderful group of "young marrieds" that meet once a month for what is called "marriage enrichment". Our Pastor and his wife started it about 3-4 years ago (I can't remember how long it has been now). Anyway, we take turns meeting at each other's homes and all pitch in to help provide the supper. After we eat, we either watch a DVD on marriage or our Pastor reads something to us about marriage and we discuss it. It has been so fun and informative over the years. Jeff and I really look forward to it. (It is funny, we are the oldest and have been married the longest out of all the couples other than our Pastor and his wife)

OK, there is the background to the event we were at when this "special time" in my life took place.

As you know Jeff turned 40 this past Tuesday. We started celebrating it last Friday night when his family came in for a surprise visit. Then Tuesday night I cooked his special "traditional" dinner. Last night I wanted to include our friends from church in Jeff's birthday celebration. After all you only turn 40 once in your lifetime. (Most of these couples also make up Jeff's Sunday School class that he teaches) I ordered him a Diary Queen cake for our dessert last night. If you have ever done that you know their cakes are WONDERFUL, but not cheap. The one I bought was about $25.00. After we had all eaten our fill of the delicious supper and were getting ready to begin our discussion session, I decided to bring out the cake. I asked Ben Fleming to start us in a round of "Happy Birthday" while I brought the cake out to show everyone. I had the cake backwards to everyone else so I thought I would try to turn it around. Little did I know that it wasn't attached to the plastic tray it was on. Right there in front of 16 people I did a little "dance" that I am sure was quite comical trying to save the cake from sliding off into the floor. I was NOT successful in my attempts and yes, Jeff's beautiful birthday cake went bottoms up right on the floor! Everyone had just begun to sing when this happened so they all sat frozen as they watched me do the "dance". Then several who were sitting closest to me jumped up and helped me get it up off the floor. The rest went on singing to Jeff. Every one thought I was going to cry (I thought I might too!) but thankfully I didn't humiliate myself further by breaking down like a two year old. They were all very sweet and told me not to worry about it and no one made any funny jokes right then. They let me get my composure back then started teasing me about it. It helped to laugh! We got everything cleaned up, scraped the top off the cake and sliced it up and served it to everyone. It was delicious! Had it not been a ice cream cake, we would NOT have enjoyed birthday cake for dessert. My only regret is that no one had a camera or video camera focused on me at that time so that I could add pictures for you all to get the full effect of my most embarrassing moment-this week.

Lisa, I can just picture you trying to save the cake. I am so sorry about your mishap. I hope nobody gives you too hard of a time. Christine

Christine,
only Leonard- who had to do a "re-enactment of my dance". It was hilarious of course-and hopefully much funnier than what I actually did. I didn't mind though-I just died laughing, which is much better than me crying. LOL

I couldn't even see you, I just saw everyone's faces get these horrified expressions! Mom had a good piont- at least it wasn't on Ben & Beth's new carpet! It was delicious, anyway!

Julie, don't you recognize sarcasm when you see it?? LOL!

Lisa - you did fantastic describing it in words, so much that I could picture it in my mind with no problem. I sat here laughing just thinking of it. It does sound like you were a good sport too! It's good to know that someone else has those special moments and not just me!! As for the dancing, if you want to dance you can go ahead and do it, you don't have to toss an ice cream cake to have an excuse!! LOL!! Hope everything else is going well for you all!!
