Today was the Alabama ACEA (Christian Schools) Elementary State Fine Arts Competition in Jemison, AL. This is for grades 4th-6th. So it’s the first year for Jacob our youngest son and the last year in this category, for Taylor, our middle son.
For months now they have been practicing their piano pieces. Jacob decided to play “Jericho” (a spiritual) in the sacred category. This is the same piece that Jorden played in the 4th grade and Taylor played in the 4th grade, so I guess you would say it’s tradition!
Taylor entered the classical category and played “Solfeggietto” by CPE Bach. This is a very difficult piece with lots of fancy fingering!
They also played a duet in the sacred piano category. They played “This Little Light of Mine” arranged by .

They also both entered group entries.
The 4th grade did a Readers Theater of “Hooray for Diffenduffer Day” (I have no idea how to spell that) by Dr. Seuss. They won 2nd place with a Superior Rating.
The 5th grade did a Choric Speaking of “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” and they won 1st place with a superior rating.
Jacob also entered the Duet Acting category with Ryan Hedstrom and they did “Who’s On First” by Abbott and Costello. They didn’t place, but I was still so proud of them for trying.
Our 4th-6th grade also entered the Choral group. They also didn’t place in the top three, but they did a great job!!
Well, I guess you are wondering the outcome of the piano.
Taylor with his classmate and friend, Brandon, who won 3rd place in Photography.
The boys with their teacher, Mrs. Karen Blankenship.
Yep! 1st Place with a Superior Rating in all three categories!!
